Louisiana Conservation Corps will have their first Summer Youth Crew in 2019! We’re recruiting for two positions for the 2019 summer season.

 

Summer Youth Crews

This program is for current high school students and recent high school graduates to spend a summer working on conservation projects throughout the Baton Rouge area. Members will work on trail improvement and habitat restoration projects led by two adult Crew Leaders. Opportunities for travel and camping will be provided. Crews will focus on building conservation skills and engaging in environmental education. The program works in partnership with several agencies and organizations dedicated to serving youth and the environment.

Term of Service: May 21st, 2019 – August 2nd, 2019

Qualifications – Must Have

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Between the ages of 21-28
  • US Citizenship or lawful permanent US Resident
  • Clean 3-year Driving Record
  • Prior experience in camping, backcountry travel, or related field work
  • Ability to hike 3-12 miles per day in rugged terrain, often wearing a 45lb backpack and carrying tools.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds repeatedly and use hand and power tools
  • Ability to pass a National Service Criminal History Check
  • Commitment to completing entire term of service
  • Strong service ethic and desire to serve the community and the environment
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people
  • Willingness to work long, hard hours in all weather conditions; ability to be away on one overnight field work and camping trip (dates and length TBD)
