Help keep Austin and Houston beautiful on the Austin Texas Land Stewards (ATLAS) Crew, Houston Environmental Action Team (HEAT), and San Antonio Maintenance Action Team (MAT)!

These crews work on local projects and have a regular schedule, Monday through Friday.

Maintenance Action Team (MAT)

San Antonio, TX

American YouthWorks Conservation Corps Maintenance Action Team AmeriCorps Members will participate in environmental conservation projects at San Antonio Missions National Historic Park. Members may also serve as a resource for state and federal disasters.

MAT Crew is a full-time AmeriCorps term of service for people aged 18-24 who are local to the San Antonio area. Schedule is generally Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 5 PM. Alternative schedule may be 10 days on / 4 days off when on hitch trips.

 

Austin Texas Land Stewards (ATLAS)

Austin, TX

The Texas Conservation Corps’ ATLAS Crew, in collaboration with the City of Austin, is a youth environmental stewardship program that focuses on local, urban conservation, and restoration projects. Typical projects include habitat restoration, trail construction and maintenance, new park development, wildfire fuel reduction, and park clean-up. Crew leaders transport crews and equipment in 12-passenger vans, trucks, and trailer hitches; ensure all safety protocols are followed by crew members; teach and support members throughout their term. A service term with Texas Conservation Corps is both a challenging and rewarding experience that you will remember for the rest of your life!

ATLAS Crew is a full-time AmeriCorps term of service for people aged 18-24 who are local to the Austin area and have not been enrolled in school or working full-time for the past 6 months.

 

Houston Environmental Action Team (HEAT)

Houston, TX

The Texas Conservation Corps’ HEAT Crew focuses on local urban conservation and restoration projects. Typical projects include urban landscaping, public lands improvement, and vegetation management. Other activities include project partner communication and planning, as well as maintaining vehicles, tools, and equipment.

HEAT Crew is a full-time AmeriCorps term of service for people aged 18-28 who are local to the Houston area. We highly encourage you to apply if you are LGBTQ+, experiencing homelessness, or are involved with the criminal justice system.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Between the ages of 18-28
  • US Citizenship or lawful permanent US Resident
  • Ability to pass a National Service Criminal History Check
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather types while doing hard, often repetitive, labor with hand & power tools
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people
  • Commitment to completing an entire term of service
  • (Austin/ATLAS only) Ability to hike 1-10 miles per day in rugged terrain while carrying tools
  • Crew leaders must have at least 5 months of previous hands-on conservation experience.
  • ATLAS crew leaders (Austin) must also have a clean 3-year Driving Record.
