Summer Youth Crews (SYC)

Austin TX | Houston, TX | San Antonio, TX | Tribal Nations | Asian and Pacific Islander Crew

Spend your summer getting paid to build conservation skills and engage in environmental education. The Texas Conservation Corps’ Summer Youth Program is an AmeriCorps opportunity for young adults to work with a crew on habitat restoration projects throughout Texas.

These crews are open to current high school students, recent high school graduates, college students and young adults looking to spend a summer working on conservation projects throughout Texas. Led by two adult crew leaders, members will work on trail improvement and habitat restoration projects, and will engage in environmental education. Opportunities for travel and camping will be provided. All experiences, skill levels, and backgrounds are welcome to apply!

 

Asian and Pacific Islander Crew | Houston, TX

American YouthWorks’ Texas Conservation Corps (TXCC) is recruiting API (Asian and Pacific Islander) young adults 18 to 35 years old for a Summer 2024 AmeriCorps term of service.

The API 2024 Summer crew aims to make environmental careers more accessible for API young adults.

Crew members will learn to address environmental issues through the completion of on-site, skills-based projects on public lands. They will have opportunities to explore careers in conservation work.

      • $2,400/month for crew members
      • $2,720/month for crew leaders

Qualifications
  • Between the ages of 17-28 (Crew Member) and 21-35 (Crew Leader)
  • Ability to have transportation to and from American YouthWorks locations
  • US Citizenship or lawful permanent US Resident
  • Commitment to completing the entire term of service
  • Strong service ethic and desire to serve the community and the environment
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people
  • Willingness to work long, hard hours in all weather conditions; ability to be away on one overnight trip at the end of their term (up to 7 days, dates and location TBD)
    • Crew Leaders Only
    • High school diploma or GED
    • Clean 3-year Driving Record
    • Prior experience in camping, backcountry travel, or related fieldwork
    • Ability to hike 3-12 miles per day in rugged terrain, often wearing a 45lb backpack and carrying tools.
    • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds repeatedly and use hand and power tools
    • Ability to pass a National Service Criminal History Check
