Interested in Joining?

American YouthWorks YouthBuild program serves young people, ages 16-24, who are currently not in school or work.

Participants spend half the day in high school diploma or GED classes, and half the day learning a trade, earning certifications, and engaging in the community.

How to Apply

YouthBuild programming participants at graduation.

Education

High School Diplomas are offered at our Austin location through the on-site charter school, The Goodwill Excel Center, and are for ages 18 and up.

The instructor-led GED program is offered at our Austin and Taylor locations and is for ages 16-24 (16 year olds need a court order, and ages 17-18 needs parental consent).

Case Managers work closely with participants to provide the support and resources they need to pursue their goals.

Career Training Pathways & Community Engagement

Participants are paid to train for in-demand career fields (no experience necessary). Through career training and community service projects, participants address areas of social inequities in our communities.

Casa Verde Builders | Construction Careers

Location Austin
Career Pathway Learn skills to enter the construction industry and prepare for continued training such as electricians, plumbers, and welders.
Career Training & Community Engagement Casa Verde Builders combines certification classes with practical experience, and develops skills in construction and green building. Participants address houslessness and access to affordable housing by repairing houses for low-income families and building micro-homes at Community First! Village, a development of Mobile Loaves and Fishes, for people experiencing houslessness.

Health Corps | Medical Careers

Location Austin
Career Pathway Learn skills to enter the healthcare industry and prepare for continued training in the medical field. We help participants enroll in and obtain financial aid for a variety of healthcare career pathways through Austin Community College’s Health Sciences department and other local training providers.
Career Training & Community Engagement Health Corps combines certification classes with practical experience, and develops skills as Community Health Workers. Participants address health disparities in the community by organizing blood donation events, volunteering with local care providers, and assisting with health screenings at health fairs in underserved communities.

Media Corps | Computer Technology & Graphic Design Careers

Location Austin
Career Pathway Learn skills to enter the Information Technology industry and prepare for continued training in the Information Technology field, such as Support Specialist and IT Technician.
Career Training & Community Engagement Media Corps combines certification classes with practical experience, and develops skills in Computer Technology and Graphic Design. Participants address the digital divide by building and repairing computers that are distributed out to public computer labs and donated out to low-income communities. Participants also engage with the community by designing and producing marketing materials for local non-profits.

Media Corps | Manufacturing Careers

Location Austin and Taylor
Career Pathway Learn skills to enter the Manufacturing industry and prepare for continued training in the Advanced Manufacturing Industry.
Career Training & Community Engagement Media Corps combines certification classes with practical experience, and develops skills in manufacturing, entrepreneurship, business management and customer service. Through the Print Shop, participants manage and produce marketing materials for local nonprofits and the community.
