What is AmeriCorps?

AmeriCorps is the federal agency for community service and volunteerism, and places AmeriCorps members in intensive service roles throughout the country. Some of those roles are with American YouthWorks’ YouthBuild program. These positions are temporary.

Casa Verde Builders (CVB) Construction Crew Member

Position Status Positions filled. Not currently accepting applications.
Program and Position YouthBuild, AmeriCorps term of service (temporary)
Term Lengths 900 hours (5-6 months), 1700 hours (11-12 months)
Hours & Schedule Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
Ages 18-28
Position Summary Learn construction while building affordable housing, doing home repairs for low-income homeowners and building micro-homes for chronically unsheltered community members.
Project Sites include Community First Village (tiny house construction), Southeast Metro Park Ranger House (single family home construction), and Ecology Action (pergola and bird blind construction).
This pre-apprenticeship program prepares young people for pursuing careers such as electricians, welders, carpenters, and other skilled trades positions.
Required Experience No previous construction experience is necessary! Applicants must already have their high school diploma or GED, and either be a US citizen or have right to work documentation.
Certifications and Trainings OSHA10 and NCCER Core Curriculum certifications (guaranteed).
Potential certifications and trainings are NCCER Electrical, CPR/First Aid, Intro to Welding with Austin Community College, and Solar Installation (not guaranteed).

Ages 18 and up
Position Summary (from the post listing on the AmeriCorps website) The VISTA member will strengthen American YouthWorks’ workforce development and community engagement capacity by building sustainable systems that support employer partnerships, career readiness, and volunteer engagement.
Responsibilities include researching and cultivating employer relationships, coordinating outreach activities, conducting partnership meetings, developing tools to track employer engagement and workforce opportunities. The member will create career readiness resources such as resume guides, interview preparation materials, workshop content, and job search tools aligned with industry needs.
Additional duties include assisting with career readiness workshops, developing staff implementation guides, assessing volunteer recruitment practices, creating outreach materials, strengthening community partnerships, supporting volunteer recruitment efforts, and documenting procedures, tracking systems, and resources that ensure long-term sustainability and organizational impact.
