Monthly Living Allowance

Member $2,400 ($2,000 for Heritage Crew)
Leader $2,720 ($2,200 for Heritage Crew)


 

Segal AmeriCorps Education Award

Up to $7,395 (current award amounts) for qualified student loans, higher education and training programs. The amount is dependent upon length of service and fiscal year, and is awarded upon successful completion of the term. Some colleges will match these funds.


 

Student Loan Forbearance

For eligible student loans, temporarily postpone payments during your term of service.


 

Networking

Build connections with project partners! Previous partners have been the National Park Service, US Forest Service, Texas Parks & Wildlife, Austin Parks & Recreation Department, Houston Parks Board, Jean Lafitte National Historical Park & Preserve, and more.


 

Public Land Corps (PLC) Non-Competitive Status

For qualified AmeriCorps alumni, this increases the chances of being hired at federal land management agencies such as the Forest Service, National Park Service, Fish and Wildlife Service, and Bureau of Land Management.

Who qualifies?

  • Former PLC participants, specifically: individuals who have served a minimum of 640 hours of satisfactory service through a qualified youth or conservation corps on appropriate conservation projects as defined in the Public Lands Corps Act of 1993. At least 120 of those hours must have been served on a PLC project.
  • You must be 16-30 years old, inclusive, or 35 and under if you’re a veteran. (NPS Centennial Act, Dec.2016)
  • You must meet the qualifications and requirements stated in the vacancy announcement to which you apply.


 

Certifications and Trainings

Certifications and trainings depend on crew type and availability, and are not guaranteed during a term of service. Some that are frequently offered are the American Red Cross Adult First Aid/CPR/AED Certification, the S-212 Wildland Chainsaw Certification (typically only for Crew Leaders), and FEMA Certifications (for crews on disaster response teams).


 

Personal and Professional Growth

Develop personal and professional skills that are transferable to a wide variety of careers through career development workshops, 1 on 1 work evaluations, and networking.


 

Health Insurance

Medical health insurance and mental health care options at no cost to participants


 

Support Services

Needs-based Support Services are offered for participants that need assistance with transportation, food, vital documents, bills, and other financial needs. These funds are limited and the amount is determined by Crew Type, term length, and operating site.


 

Gear & Boot Assistance

Gear and boot assistance is available for qualified purchases. These funds are limited and the amount is determined by Crew Type.


 

Yoga Club

At the Austin, TX operating site only, participants may choose to join the weekly, 45 minutes, Conservation Corps Yoga Club class led by a certified Yoga Instructor. Classes are for all skill levels and members can count AmeriCorps hours.

Qualifications


 

Essential Functions

  • Frequently required to walk and hike over long distances while carrying tools
  • Ability to operate tools
  • Heavy lifting, bending, and carrying up to 35-50* pounds (*depending on crew type)
  • Walking and working on steep or uneven terrain
  • Ability to work long days in adverse weather conditions
  • Depending on crew type, ability to hitch, camp, and travel throughout the duration of an entire AmeriCorps term

    • Prior Conservation Corps and/or AmeriCorps experience with successful completion of term
