Summer Youth Crews

This program is for current high school students and recent high school graduates to spend a summer working on conservation projects throughout the City of Austin and Travis County. Members will work on trail improvement and habitat restoration projects led by two adult Crew Leaders. Opportunities for travel and camping will be provided. Crews will focus on building conservation skills and engaging in environmental education. The program works in partnership with Travis County Parks and the City of Austin.


Summer Youth Crew Members: Ages 14-20
Term: June 18th, 2018 – August 10th, 2018

  • $1,218 per month living stipend
  • Americorps Education Award
  • Student Loan Deferment
  • Wilderness and Remote First Aid Certification
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Technical Skills Training
  • Fundamental Skills Training

Qualifications – Must Have

  • Between the ages of 14-20
  • Ability to have transportation to and from American YouthWorks in Southeast Austin, Monday through Friday
  • US Citizenship or lawful permanent US Resident
  • Clean 3-year Driving Record
  • Commitment to completing entire term of service
  • Strong service ethic and desire to serve the community and the environment
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people
  • Willingness to work long, hard hours in all weather conditions; ability to be away on one overnight trip at the end of their term (up to 7 days, dates and location TBD)
